Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK)

What is VMK?
Disney’s Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) was a multiplayer online world created by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online in partnership with Finnish game developer Sulake. Launched in summer 2005 to commemorate Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration, VMK aimed to recreate the Disney theme park experience in the comfort of one's own home - with that concept’s immediate popularity with children and adults alike proving its success.

Loosely modeled after Sulake’s existing venture, Habbo Hotel, VMK invited players to explore its Disney theme park-inspired Public Rooms and to create their own Guest Rooms with furniture bought via in-game Credits from themed shops in each of VMK’s five original lands: Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, with New Orleans Square being added later in the game’s lifespan.

Disney announced the closure of VMK, to widespread dismay, in 2008. Players refer to the original, official version as “OG” or “OG VMK”.

What is VMK Legacy?
VMK Legacy (VMKL) is a project that was established in 2018 as “NETCOT Center” by a group of former VMK players who wanted to bring back the magic of VMK that they loved so much. Over the next two years, they would make this dream a reality: NETCOT opened on July 31, 2020, and was renamed VMK Legacy two years later.

The goal of VMK Legacy is to stay true to the original ideals and philosophies of the Virtual Magic Kingdom team and to create an experience that is as true to the original game as possible while moving it forward into the future. VMK Legacy is a showcase of everything that VMK was, and everything it still can be.

What are Festivals?

xc5wllBO3SYvrcVBicXIyizKfUuVMIyfEDeXlZdS.png Festivals in VMK Legacy are conceptually inspired by (and named after) the festivals held year-round at EPCOT, but in practice are closer to OG VMK’s themed months - designed with the freedom to extend Festivals past a single month if necessary. Festivals are always scheduled to begin on the first day of the month. When a Festival isn’t going on, we call that period Off Season.

What is "Off Season"?

XkA08MGpt5seh6Zm9YIWjq3hp4ASBhmA1fFXeHCz.png Off Season in VMK Legacy is much like off season in the Parks: a chance for both VMKL Staff and Guests to take time to slow down between Festivals and prepare for more exciting happenings to come. During this period, there are typically limited HOST events and no regular shop releases. Off Season normally lasts a few days to a few weeks - you can usually predict the length of a given Off Season by the time left in the month after a Festival ends, because Festivals always begin on the first day of the month.

Types of Events to attend:

  • HOST Events: Regular events scheduled by the HOSTs. New HOST prizes are added each month, so show up regularly to get as many as you can!
  • Festival Events: A Festival Event is a themed event or event series that typically spans the entirety of a festival. These events are unique to the festival and usually give out their own special prizes!
  • Community Events: These events are official social activities run by VMKL Staff. They usually do not award prizes and are focused on socializing with the community!
  • Pin Trading: This even is held once a month and allows players to trade their currently owned pins for staff-exclusive pins. Each pin traded by a player is swapped onto the Staff's lanyard for other players to potentially trade for!

Pro-Tip: While waiting to enter an event, players will socialize in the Street Party Music Game Lobby. Head to this public room during the scheduled event times to meet new friends!

There are a lot of ways to earn credits in VMKL:

Jungle Cruise

A solo “point and shoot” boat ride game.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Face off against other players on the high seas! Play Ship Battle or Capture the Flag to earn keys and unlock chests in the Pirate’ Treasure Room for a chance to win exclusive prizes!

Music Mixer (in the Street Party Music Lobby)

Create a mix once per day to earn credits.

Play mixes every 15 minutes to earn credits each time you mix.

Visit NPCs

Click on each NPC once per day to earn 20 credits each, that’s 180 credits every day!

  • Esmeralda in the Emporium
  • The Yeti at the Matterhorn
  • Maleficent in the Dungeon
  • Captain Blackheart at the Pirate Treehouse
  • Shrunken Ned in Shrunken Ned’s Shop

Fantasyland Dark Rides

The most popular credit-earning activity right now is riding Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan’s Flight in the Fantasyland Courtyard! Each ride gives you a chance to win a single-use Sword in the Stone (SITS) pin.

Use the SITS pin on the Sword in the Stone to win various prizes, including:

  • Credits
  • Pins
  • Furniture
  • Clothing items
  • Rare items
  • And potentially Ultra-Rare item(s) that span multiple festivals (sometimes over a year or more)!
